Knightmare – The First Ever Winning Quest

May 13, 2009

Yes, things really were better in the past.  If you want to see an end to juvenille delinquency, bring back this show! Observe how intelligent, friendly and polite these kids are. They’d never shout ‘Get a haricut!’ at you for no reason or play skanky techno on their phones on the 7a.m. bus.

If you don’t have time for the whole thing – I’d recommend the opening credits for part one and part four (where the kids have to convince a gargoyle that he’s not ugly).

Eels – Last Stop: This Town

September 5, 2008

I recently finished Mark Oliver Everett’s Things the Grandchidren Should Know, which has restored my faith in the rock autobiography.  It encouraged me to root out some old Eels albums and even go buy a new one. Here’s a great track from Electro-Shock Blues.

I also managed to see the brilliant Parallel World’s, Parallel Lives, in which E explores the ideas that made his father one of the most important, yet cruelly under-appreciated, quantum mechanics of the twentieth centure. (I think all the parts are on you tube and there’s a torrent or two floating around.)
