The Coen Brothers really should re-make this. I saw this by accident last night (I thought I’d rented Michael J. Fox classic The Secret of My Success). One of the most enjoyable film noirs I’ve seen in ages. Curtis and Lancaster are both on top form and Alexander Mackendrick (director of The Ladykillers) doesn’t disappoint either.
Here’s the original trailer :
(I think the whole movie’s on youtube)
Yes, things really were better in the past. If you want to see an end to juvenille delinquency, bring back this show! Observe how intelligent, friendly and polite these kids are. They’d never shout ‘Get a haricut!’ at you for no reason or play skanky techno on their phones on the 7a.m. bus.
If you don’t have time for the whole thing – I’d recommend the opening credits for part one and part four (where the kids have to convince a gargoyle that he’s not ugly).
This might just be the best thing I’ve heard in 2009 so far.
