Halfset

September 12, 2007

About five or six years ago I got a free Electronica CD  in Road Records with the Halfset track ‘Laptop Dancer’. Since then I’ve listened to that track on repeat for about an hour once a week. It reminds me of home. This track from their gig in the Sugar club is pretty good too.

Boyz ‘n’ the Palace

September 11, 2007

Can someone tell me why indie folk legend Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy is in the new Kanye West video? This just seems like a very wierd hip-hop dream … athough it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had one of those.

Big Train – Cake, Army, Office Joker

September 10, 2007

Here are three top quality sketches from Big Train. The last two have some good Linehan and Matthews cameos. Oh, and they’re extremely funny too…

100 Greatest Canadians

September 8, 2007

I know ‘100 greatest…’ lists are meant to be taken with a pinch of salt, but this is bloody ridiculous.

http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/greatcanadians/

Let’s see:

18. Shania Twain

20. Mike Myers

27. Celine Dion

29. Jim Carrey

39. Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart

40. Avril Lavigne

41. John Candy

51. Pamela Anderson

56. William Shatner

82. Dan Akroyd (Ok…maybe he deserves it.)

But the most annoying thing about this list is that Candian-born writer Saul Bellow actually won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1976 but didn’t even make the top 100. Clearly in the eyes of the Canadian Public literary classics such as Herzog and Seize the Day are no match for cultural milestones like Skater Boi, So I Married an Axe Murderer or ‘The Excellence of Execution’.

I always found it unsettling that he chose to name a missile defence program Star Wars. The clip below explains why:
