Airstrip One have a Gig

October 16, 2009

Yes, we are a band, even though we barely do anything. This may be your only chance to catch us live for ages. Sunday 10.30, 4 Dame Lane, Dublin. If you wonder what we sound like, here’s a link to our Myspace.*

*Airstrip One’s use of Myspace does not indicate tacit endorsement of Rupert Murdoch and his Evil Media Empire. In fact, I wish there was an alternative owned by someone who was a force for good in the world, but what can you do?

The Fiery Furnaces – Tropical Iceland

The Fiery Furnaces are rocking my world! Song and video are both incredible. I haven’t been this excited about a band in years!

Healthcare Town Hall Meetings Turn Ugly

Well done Fox News. The last guy on the clip makes pretty good sense.

Sometimes, just sometimes, teams of ad executives get it so right.

The Sweet Smell of Success

May 14, 2009

The Coen Brothers really should re-make this. I saw this by accident last night (I thought I’d rented Michael J. Fox classic The Secret of My Success). One of the most enjoyable film noir’s I’ve seen in ages. Curtis and Lancaster are both on top form and Alexander Mackendrick (director of The Ladykillers) doesn’t disappoint either.

Here’s the original trailer :

(I think the whole movie’s on youtube)

SFA Primer – Drowning in Designer Ice Cream

March 19, 2009

I’m so excited about the new SFA album that I threw together a little playlist on Seeqpod. All the tracks are from the previous records they’ve put out prior to DD/LY. Even without lots of the tracks I would have liked to put on there it still rules –  Enjoy! [Click the pic]

David O’Doherty nominated for Edinburgh Comedy Award

August 21, 2008

David O’Doherty has been nominated for the 2008 if.comedy Awards at the Edinburgh festival. He’s my favourite stand-up in the world by miles and I really hope he wins.  Here’s some classic whimsy from the DOD

Nosferatunes

August 6, 2008

I’ve had Vampire Weekend’s eponymous debut on heavy rotation for the last three weeks and I’m still  not tired of it. This record has to be a serious front-runner for Album of the Year 2008, and possibly the decade.

Here’s ‘Mansard Roof’ and ‘Walcott’ to whet your appetite.
